About Me 🍚

Hi! I'm Nathalie, a computer science student at Rice University, and my interest in tech really started with my mom. After our family immigrated from Cuba, she taught herself how to repair computers to bring in extra income. I grew up watching her fix computers most people would have thrown away and explain what all the different parts did along the way.

That's a big part of why I started an all-girls robotics team in high school. I wanted to build things too, not just watch. I became the team's lead programmer, and somewhere between debugging our robot and watching it finally do what I wanted, I realized how much I liked solving problems through code.

Now, that interest shows up as way too many personal projects (this website included) and a growing love for full-stack development and AI. I especially like building things people can actually use, whether that means helping a nonprofit figure out where to expand its food outreach or replacing a stack of paper forms with something easier.

When I'm not coding, I'm probably thrifting for something no one else will find cool or wandering around campus with my camera, taking pictures of the squirrels. 🐿️

    Student Computing Consultant

    Rice University Technology Solutions & Services

    Resolve 50+ support issues a week for 8,000+ university students and staff members by diagnosing problems over phone, tickets, and follow-ups, then translating the fix into plain instructions.

  2. May 2026 – July 2026

    Algorithms Instructor

    Tapia Center, Rice University

    Turned Boolean logic and algorithm design into hands-on, interactive lessons for 600+ campers enabaling them to create an algorithm that evaluates 1,000 mock college applicants and selects 200. I also coordinated daily transitions for 180 campers with 100% on-time starts.

    This was one of the most rewarding experiences I've had, and I loved getting to teach a subject I love to students from all backgrounds and skill levels. I also learned a lot about how to communicate complex ideas in a way that makes sense to people who are new to the topic. 💛

  3. January 2026 – May 2026

    Undergraduate Research Assistant

    Rice University

    Trained Random Forest models with scikit-learn to predict Curie temperatures of ferromagnetic materials, cleaning and analyzing 20,000 material samples with pandas along the way. Cut prediction RMSE 40%, from 50K to 30K, through better preprocessing and hyperparameter tuning.
